The child stared at her with beady, emotionless eyes, almost as if they were used to the sight of death; as if he didn’t care about the rest of the family. She didn’t know if she felt pity for the thin figure in front of her; she didn’t know how she would deal with the situation or where she plans to keep the kid. All she knew was that she wanted to protect it from people like Sunny and Gikwang and Tiffany.

It’s the first customer of the day and it’s already 6pm. Of course everyone was irritable. No one wanted to eat cold hearts; which is why they feed them to the customers: A bunch of people who didn’t even know the difference between the heart and the meat.
They moved fast. It’s been ages since they last ate anything decent, ages since they would actually be able to eat without fighting over who gets the bigger piece this time. There we six people to cook for plus a child; perfect for the six hungry mouths to feed.
The smell of tomatoes and herbs fills the confined space as the woman stands up, every step she takes echoing in the room as her heels hit ceramic tiles on the floor. Tiffany stands up and puts on the best smile she can manage. If it was for food, she’d do it, but the smiling was the hard part.
